Driving learner permit course for new Florida drivers — $22.00.
Florida teens who want to get a driver license in Florida for the first time must complete a driving learner permit (or drug and alcohol) class. This class is a 4-hour course required by the State of Florida that can be taken online at DriverLicenseSchool.com. The Florida driver learner permit course explains the dangers of driving after consuming alcohol or taking drugs. It also addresses topics such as Florida traffic laws, the importance of wearing safety belts, and how to react in emergency driving situations.
"With the online learners permit class, I was able to study for a few hours at a time. This worked out better for me than one long classroom session on a Saturday morning."
– Tim N., Ocala
You must be at least 15 years of age in order to apply for your State of Florida driver license, but you can take your driving learner permit course before your 15th birthday.
Please be advised that the driving learner permit course does not prepare you for your Florida driver license test. The questions on your driver license test (or road signs and road rules test) are taken from the Florida Driver Handbook. You must study the Florida drivers handbook before attempting your driver license test in person at a local driver license office.
Also, you are not required to take a driving learner permit class if: A) You have a driver's license from any U.S. state; or B) You have a driver license from another country that is accepted by the Florida DHSMV.
