Once you pass the Florida drug and alcohol test, you will be given the chance to sign up for the online driver license test. This is the only way you can take the driver license test online. You will need to pay the driver license test entry fee and then you can either take the test instantly or study the Florida Driver Handbook first. If you decide to take the driver license test later, you just need to log back into this site and you will see the sign-up page for the test.

What is the difference between the Florida drug and alcohol test and the driver license test?

The Florida drug and alcohol test is at the end of the learners permit course. This test contains 40 questions, is open book, and can be taken an unlimited number of times. The questions are on the material you studied in the learners permit course.

The driver license test (or Class E exam) is also 40 questions (20 on road rules and 20 on road signs). This test is NOT open book, and you get only three chances to pass the test online (after that, you must try the test at the driver license office). If you are 18 years old or older, you cannot take this test online.

You must pass both the drug and alcohol test AND the driver license test before you can apply for a Florida restricted permit. You must be at least 15 years of age to apply for your first Florida driver license (learner permit), but you can take the Florida drug and alcohol test and driver license test before your 15th birthday.

SPECIAL IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have a Florida driver license, or you have ever been licensed in another state or certain countries, you do not have to take the Florida learners permit course.
