What's in the Florida drivers handbook?
The Florida drivers handbook contains
important information about Florida traffic laws. It
also teaches you the lane markings and road signs that
you will need to know in order to pass your online driver
license test.
What is the driver license test? This is the
road signs and road rules test that you will have to
pass before the Florida Department of Highway Safety
and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) will issue a Florida
driver license to you. You can wait in line to take
this test at your local driver license office, or you
can do what most first time drivers do and take it ONLINE
after you have completed your drug
and alcohol class on the Internet. The questions
on the driver license test come from the Florida
drivers handbook, so you must study the handbook
carefully before you attempt the driver license test.
How do I sign up for the online driver license test?
The only way you can take your driver license test
online is by first completing your learner permit course
online. After you pass the final exam for your learner
permit course, you will have the option to take your
driver license test right away, or study the Florida
drivers handbook and take your test later.
If you decide to take your test right away, you will
need to pay the entrance fee and answer a set of security
questions. Your test will be graded and you will know
your score immediately. If you decide to take a break
to study the Florida drivers handbook
before you try the online test, you can just log back
into this website and you will be automatically taken
to the driver license test registration area.
Why do I have to take a learners permit course? Florida
law (§322.095, F.S.) requires that all Florida
teens complete a State-approved Traffic Law Substance
Abuse Education program (TLSAE
course or TLSAE
online) so that they will understand the full consequences
of drinking or taking drugs and driving. You can't get
a Florida driver license without this course! Fortunately,
you can sign up here
to take your course on the Web.
Drivers who hold or have held a Florida driver license,
or a license from another state, or a valid license
from a country that is acknowledged by the DHSMV, do
not have to complete a TLSAE course.
