All teens who want to get a Florida learner permit must be tested on Florida traffic laws (or "rules of the road") and road sign and lane marking identification. This test, which is sometimes called the driver license test or Class E test, asks 20 questions on road rules and 20 questions on road signs. You must pass both parts of the test in order to get your Florida Driver License (learner permit).
"There were no traffic schools in my area that offered the Florida learner permit course. I was lucky a friend told me about the Driver License School.com course. It was great!"
– Pete C., Sanford
Teens are also required to complete a 4-hour State-approved Florida learner permit course (also known as a drug and alcohol class, first time driver course, or drug and alcohol course). The learner permit course is NOT the same as the driver license test. The learner permit course covers topics ranging from DUI to alcohol and drug abuse. You must pass this course and take your proof of completion (certificate) to the Florida driver license office.
You will need to study the Florida Driver's Handbook before you take your driver license test (road signs and road rules). The Florida learner permit course / drug and alcohol course DOES NOT cover the material that is on the driver license test.
What about people who have had a Florida License in the past?
You would not need to take the Florida learner permit course in this case. Also, you do not need it if you have been licensed in another state or in particular countries. Consult the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles or check out our convenient guide on how to get a florida drivers license for more learner permit requirement information.
